Best Hair Mask For Hair Loss: Hair Growth Products That Work

The Hair Vigor Mask is another great offering from the folks at Ultrax Labs. Disclaimer: I’m a fan of their products, and have already reviewed and used the Ultrax Hair Surge Shampoo, and the Ultrax Plush styling serum.

The Hair Vigor Mask is a deep conditioning treatment that nourishes hair follicles and the skin on our scalp.

This hair loss product is unisex and appropriate for both men and women suffering from hair loss, or merely limp, lifeless hair that needs a big boost.

Why Use A Hair Mask?

A hair mask is a treatment that can really “sink in” to your scalp. Think about it – we use face masks for our faces, wraps and spa treatments for our bodies, but what about our scalps? Shampoo is for hair, not necessarily for our scalps.

Ultrax Labs Hair Vigor Mask claims to both smooth and repair all hair types. This includes unruly, coarse, damaged and/or color treated hair.

Using the synergistic effects of Caffeine, Aloe Vera Juice, Argan Oil and many others, the folks at Ultras claim this premium hair stimulating hair mask will give you softer looking hair that is left moisturized after its use.

Hair VigorMask helps hydrate the scalp and repair hair follicles from within to promote healthy, thicker looking hair.

Ultrax Labs Hair Vigor Mask Ingredients

Let’s take a closer look at some of these ingredients to see how they help with hair loss.

Caffeine has been proven to help hair grow

Caffeine as a hair loss treatment is essentially a miracle. The story is worth shouting from the rooftops – caffeine is an incredible discovery and asset for the hair loss treatment product world!

A revolutionary 2015 study showed that caffeine is a heavy hitter in the world of hair loss treatment. German scientists explored whether caffeine could encourage hair cells to produce more hair.

They placed follicles from hundreds of different human scalps in petri dishes. Some of the petri dishes were treated with caffeine, some where untreated. The experiment showed that the hair follicles that were spiked with caffeine grew much faster than the untreated cells.

Because of this landmark study, many shampoos, conditioners, and sprays formulated to treat hair loss now include caffeine.

Argan Oil

Argan oil has significant benefits for those suffering from hair loss. The oil has been used throughout antiquity to treat a variety of skin diseases. It’s particularly helpful for scalp plagued by dandruff and irritation. Argan oil is rich in natural phenols that are beneficial to hair follicles.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is favored for hair and skin products due to its ability to penetrate the deep layers of the skin and nourish it from within. Cocoa butter prevents hair loss due to breakage for individuals with damaged hair.

The chemical formula of biotin

We’ve written separately about Biotin, so if you want way more info, click here. Short version: biotin is an important B vitamin that helps with hair and skin health.

Hair is made of keratin, which is a type of protein. Proteins are built from amino acids, which result from the reaction of cell enzymes and biotin. The biotin in your body provides an essential ingredient in the process of hair growth.

Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe Vera has many established health benefits for the human body, particularly for skin and digestive health. Aloe Vera has an established ability to protect the skin on the scalp scalp and stimulate new growth of hair.

Aloe vera contains proteolytic enzymes, which repairs dead skin cells on the scalp. Aloe works as a conditioner, and prevents itching on the scalp. Bonus, it also reduces dandruff!

Jojoba oil

Jojoba moisturizes your scalp, stimulating hair growth. Jojoba oil acleanses the scalp of excess sebum build-up, which is scalp oil that’s often too high when there are excess androgens. Jojoba also stimulates circulation on your scalp, bringing new blood to hair follicles and thereby stimulating growth.

Sage Extract

Sage has been used in many traditional medical systems to fight hair loss and baldness. Sage contains beta-sitosterol, which is a 5-alpha reductase compound found to be effective in treating male pattern baldness.

Macadamia Nut Oil

Macadamia oil is used in hair loss products for its nutritive, reconstructive, and hydrating properties. Squalene is a naturally occurring antioxidant in macadamia oil that reduces the oxidative stress on our skin and scalp by preventing loss of moisture. The fatty acids in macadamia oil help make hair strong, shiny, and nourished down tot he level of the hair follicles, which reduces hair loss and brittle strands.

Meadowsweet is a natural astringent that helps clarify the scalp and promote circulation around follicles and hair shafts.

Sesame oil

Sesame oil improves the circulation of blood in the scalp, which in turn promotes hair growth. It is also highly penetrative in the deep layers, and this helps heal chemical damage, and supplies nourishment to hair shafts and follicles.

Sesame oil is also a natural sunscreen, protecting the scalp from harmful UV.

Ingredients Analysis

So…where does this leave us? Overly informed about the intricate details of the ingredients in Ultrax Hair Vigor!

But, it’s important to dig in and really look to see if the ingredients can at all substantiate the claims that a product works.

After reviewing the evidence in detail, I am confident this product is effective and nourishing for scalps and skin of all types. Each of the above ingredients brings its own unique benefit to the synergy of the final product.

  1. Ultrax Labs Hair Vigor Mask is the only treatment for hair loss that I have ever tried and been successful with it. It didn’t give me a full head of hair like I wanted but I saw a huge result after about the 8th week of using it every day. I am normally that self-conscious when it comes to my hair but lately, I have been trying new things out to get my hair back but to no avail.
I don’t want to be completely bald like uncle fester from the Addams family but If there is a way of prolonging my baldness them I would like to give it a shot!

  2. Thanks for the feedback about your experience with Hair Vigor! I’m happy to hear that over time you saw an improvement. It’s also great to hear from a male perspective using some of these products, because even though this is a site for women, I review plenty of unisex hair loss treatments.

  3. Nice review of Ultrax Hair Vigor, Among its ingredients, I only recognized Argan Oil. I never thought Caffeine & sesame oil are good for the scalp. I’ve never had any problems with my hair but as I age, I notice more hair loss after shampooing or dyeing my hair. I wonder if this would help?

  4. I am currently based in a foreign country that requires all women to have their hair covered at work and in public places, which made me even more prone to hair loss.

So I have been looking for remedies which led me to your site. I’ve tried fresh Aloe Vera before but it didn’t work for me. While I’m quite familiar with Argan and jojoba, I never thought that caffeine also serves to help with hair loss.

This product is quite costly but if it is really effective then it’s gonna be worth it. Thanks for the information.

  5. I have honestly never heard of a hair mask but like you said we use a mask for many things like our face so the idea of using it for our scalp makes sense. I already apply many things like conditioners and coconut oil to my scalp daily to keep it conditioned so this sounds like a great product. How do you use this, is it something we would apply daily or anytime? Thanks for the info!

  6. You sound like a great candidate to try Ultrax Hair Vigor – get some and come back and let us know how your hair is doing! It would help more readers make an informed decision. Any steps we can take to protect the hair we have are worth it!

  7. Thanks for the great question! This is something you use in the shower after your normal shampooing – it’s like a deep conditioner that you leave in for at least five minutes before rinsing. Food for your scalp!

  8. wow, great article and really nice review about hair loss mask, this looks amazing as it contain aloe vera, jojoba and other ingredients that aids in hair regrowth especially coffee…I think I should also give it a try and I am sure it will benefit me. As always, a great product from you. Whenever I came across anyone who is experiencing hair hall, I will recommend this site for sure.

  9. Now this product has some lovely ingredients. Is that a full list or are there any other ingredients in there?

30 day money back guarantee is good, provides some peace of mind for the customer. Sounds pretty good!

  10. Thanks for the question! There are a few other ingredients, but I highlighted all of the ones that I noticed that assist with hair loss. I agree, I’d never buy anything without a return option. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

  11. I am a fan of Ultrax Labs. However, I too probably like many have never really heard of a hair mask. Sounds weird but totally makes sense as we use masks for our faces and bodies etc. I am intrigued to learn that caffeine is an important stimulator for hair loss. I never knew that until venturing on your site. And look at all those other natural ingredients!

  12. Hi Rob – thanks for the great feedback. I agree, this product is chock full of good, helpful natural ingredients. Glad you learned something new about caffeine πŸ™‚

  13. You have some really great ingredients here. I like argan oil. I use it for my hair and have a head full of hair. Thank you for the post.

  14. Oh wow, that is simple and a great way to get some nourishment for your scalp. Very doable. Thanks for getting back to me!

  15. This looks like a great product and the brand seems to be very popular.
To be honest I have never used a hair mask before. Do you need to do something with your hair before using it? Do you have to just rinse it out or do you need to use shampoo and conditioner too? Which is the best approach?

  16. I was very excited to read this article – you make a valid point about shampoo being for hair not our scalps! However, I became sad to realise it has Aloe Vera Juice in it and I’m allergic to Aloe Vera. Oh well I’ll keep coming back to your site to see what other recommendations you have as they are so thorough.

  17. Hi Penelope. I totally want some of this Ultrax Labs Hair Vigor Mask. What a sensational product, I say this because it has a long list of natural ingredients and oils all of which are proven to be great for hair and scalp health.
It was interesting, the part about caffiene and the tests in Germany, and definitely explains the explosion of caffeine related hair products which are being advertised everywhere. However, I’m pretty sure the run of the mill stuff you get from the chemists is going to be cheap and nasty and packed full of chemicals, so I won’t be buying that. This stuff however looks fab!

  18. Thanks for the feedback! I’m also pretty excited about the caffeine breakthrough and support your idea that high quality sources are worth paying for. Especially when paired with all these fabulous other ingredients known to support hair growth and health.

  19. Thanks for the feedback. Oh man, an allergy to Aloe has to be tough since it shows up in all kinds of products. And a bummer, since it’s so terrific for sunburns and even digestive woes!

  20. There are leave-on hair masks and ones you rinse out. This one is more like a deep conditioning treatment that you use after your normal conditioner, and leave on for at least five minutes before rinsing. Since it’s for your scalp more than for your hair, it’s a good idea to use along with those products rather than instead of them. Thanks for the great question!

  21. Another great recommendation. I need this now, my scalp gets really dry in the winter months. It makes sense that we need a mask for hair just like our faces. This has amazing, healthy ingredients and I bet it smells great. Thanks for another great article.

  22. This seems to be a very good product and I am glad it is sold on Amazon. There are so many great products there but its hard to choose until you find a great article like this that does a thorough review.

I have always had a problem with a dry scalp so when I looked at some of the pros for this product I was happy to see that feature. Thanks for sharing.

  23. Hi Penelope, Hair loss is a big headache for me right now. I tried many different kinds of hair loss products and none of them is effective. Ultrax Hair Vigor sounds special and provides nutrients for hair growth. I am going to try this. I tried to find out how long this should be used, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have information on how long should I use it? Thanks for sharing.

  24. Hi there!

I know your website is kind of focused on women but can this product be used by men as well? I was wondering if there is any difference in our hair at all between men and woman?

    Thanks for your feedback πŸ™‚

  25. Good recommendation, Ultrax Labs Hair Vigor mask! I want to believe this should work for my wife particularly regarding the hair loss issue alongside leaving the hair voluminous and healthy. Although she has tried several stuffs which never really gave the result needed; nevertheless, I may need to convince her with “Ultrax Labs Hair Vigor mask” because I believe I am persuaded with this review.

  26. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! the great news is that this is a unisex product, so you can also try it out and see if it helps make your hair more lustrous!

  27. Thanks for the great feedback, I’m very happy that this could help sway your decision on whether to use this product.

  28. This should be used indefinitely as part of your hair treatment routine! There are no side effects from using it indefinitely. Thanks for the great question!

  29. Hey Penelope!
I gotta say, my hair has been thinning starting in my very early 20s and I don’t have a clue on the big WHY! I used to have really nice, mid thick hair and now its just thin and doesn’t grow past my shoulder blades. Its not horrible by any means – I’m not losing chunks of hair but would love for it to finally start growing in thickness length.
Anyways, thanks for this post – I’ll reference and try different treatments you’ve suggested!

  30. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience, Kseniya! The products I recommend will boost thinning hair as well as shedding hair, and strengthen your follicles to be able to support hair that grows longer.

  31. Thanks for reading! Sadly, hair loss products tend to be quite expensive across the board. At least this one comes in an 8oz jar which lasts months, depending on your hair length. And wow, I’d never considered how hijabs and other hair coverings would affect hair loss, but it makes sense if the scalp is restricted with impeded circulation and also just not getting any vitamin D3 from the sun. I would consider supplementing with this if you aren’t already.

  32. This product is actually unisex (so are all Ultrax products, which is awesome).

There are some differences in the way we tend to bald, but surprisingly, the main culprit for hair loss is equally problematic for men and women. It’s an excess of a hormone called DHT, which is a byproduct of testosterone. it attaches to our androgen receptors in our hair follicles (only head hair, sadly) and keeps it from growing.
