What Is Alopecia?

Alopecia is a condition that affects both men and women, and results in hair loss.

The most common type of alopecia is Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), or pattern hair loss. It affects both men and women.

The cause of this type of alopecia is thought to be a combination of hormones, genetics, and specifically, an excess of the hormone DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, which is a byproduct of testosterone occurring in both male and female bodies.

Excessive DHT weakens follicles and blocks new hair growth.

Another type is Alopecia Areata (AA), or, spot baldness. For some, an extreme form is alopecia universalis, and can result in hair loss on the entire head and body.

This condition is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks itself.

Alopecia is not contagious and in most cases of spot baldness at least, it is temporary.

Men and women suffering from alopecia are eager for treatments and this latest offering from Just Nutritive holds a great deal of promise.

What’s In It?

First, what’s NOT in this stuff: All Just Naturals products do NOT contain sulfates or parabens, which are two big bad boogiemen often found in beauty and hair loss treatments which can actually work AGAINST the goal of saving our hair!

Renewal Hair and Scalp Therapy / Alopecia Hair Loss Treatment contains many healing and natural hair growth plant extracts.

In the words of Just Nutritive, here are some of the ingredients in this product, and benefits of those ingredients:

Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia chinensis)

Jojoba is cultivated in the southwestern U.S. and the golden colored oil is extracted from jojoba seeds. Centuries ago, Native Americans pressed the yellow waxy substance from jojoba seeds to apply to cuts to speed healing.

Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic and non-allergenic. This means that it will not clog pores and will not cause any allergic reactions. In addition to that, it does not cause a greasy feeling when used on your hair.

Foraha Oil (Calophyllum inophyllum)

Foraha oil is also known as Tamanu, Kamanu, and Alexandrian laurel. It is native to Africa, Asia, and the Pacific region. It has been used by centuries for its remarkable healing power.

Foraha has anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antioxidant properties. It contains three types of lipids, as well as a unique fatty acid called calophyllic acid, an antibacterial element called lactone and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent called calophyllolide.

Pumpkin Seed Oil (Cucurbita maxima)

Valued for their medicinal properties for more than 3,000 years, pumpkin seeds have a remarkable health benefits. Pumpkin seeds are mineral and vitamin rich.

They contain high quantities of magnesium, manganese and phosphorus, and are also a source of iron, copper, vitamin K, protein and zinc. Some basic research may suggest that the phytosterols, which is found in pumpkin seeds, may block the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Less DHT should mean less hair follicle fallout or hair fall.

Castor Seed Oil (Ricinus communis)

Castor oil is obtained by cold pressing from the seeds of the castor oil plant. Since ancient times it has been a popular healing agent for various skin problems. The plant is also known as Palma Christi for its medicinal properties. The antibacterial activity of castor oil comes from ricinoleic acid with is said to be effective against bacteria.

The antifungal and antibacterial properties in castor oil are said to be useful in combating scalp infections. Infections and scalp disorders may be a factor of hair fall. Pathogens can attack your skin and scalp, leading to bald patches and impeding hair growth. It may also improve the condition of your hair and aid in hair growth.

Castor oil also contains anti-inflammatory properties, which can be related to healthy hair growth.

Atlas Cedarwood Essential Oil (Cedrus atlantica)

Atlas Cedarwood essential oil is said to be one of the first crude essential oils to be extracted, and it was one of the oils Egyptians used. Atlas Cedarwood essential oil, also known as Cedarwood is steam distilled from the wood. Cedarwood essential oil has antiseptic as well as anti-bacterial properties and is well known for its detoxing effect where it offers a gentle stimulating effect.

Thyme Essential Oil (Thymus vulgaris)

Thyme also known as Common Thyme is widely known for its medicinal properties since ancient times. It stimulates blood flow, when used on the scalp it helps deliver the nutrients to hair follicles. At the same time Thyme has cleansing properties which make it helpful on dandruff and build-up of the scalp. This fragrant herb is an amazing treat for your scalp and hair.

Burdock Root Extract (Arctium lappa)

It is popularly known as ‘oriental ginseng’ in Japan. The plant has large leaves and purple flowers resembling thistle flowers.

The root of the plant is used for cosmetic and medicinal purposes, including promoting healthy hair.

Burdock makes hair healthy by improving scalp circulation. It improves the strength and helps with hair loss. Burdock root is a very nutritious – it contains a high amount of Vitamins A, C, B1, E, and K.

Alopecia Hair Loss Treatment Reviews

Here are some of the highlights of users experiences with this treatment:

The Good

People who’ve used this product say it smells great, it’s easy to use, the bottle lasts a long time, and they see results quickly. Here are a couple representative positive reviews from the Just Nutritive website:

Here’s another worth reading:

The Bad

Not everything works for everyone. Looking on for negative reviews, I found this information. Most negative reviews just said the product didn’t work.

Other users appeared to have an allergic reaction to one or more of the ingredients, and some reported issues with dandruff or greasy hair (although the instructions do say to wash out the product, which is why applying it overnight is best).

As always, I caution everyone to carefully review the ingredients for potential allergens, and also to weigh the pros and cons of trying something more natural, like this product, vs. something more chemical, such as Rogaine.

Overall: Renewal Hair Therapy is Worth a Shot!

I’m a fan of another one of the Just Nutritive products, their popular Grow New Hair Faster treatment.

Because of that, I’m inclined to favorably view the other Just Nutritive products and eventually wanna try all of their shampoo and conditioners as well.

For anyone suffering from alopecia or unspecified hair loss, this is a great topical treatment choice for improving scalp health and filling in those bald spots.

  1. This is great information to have. I have a friend who has alopecia so I will send this on to her. Thanks for posting!

  2. Hey Penelope, it seems like this product produces a mix bag in terms of benefits.

It has lots of natural ingredients like you mentioned with the pumpkin seeds and I think it’d be very beneficial for hair!

I might get this for a family member for their Christmas present, it sounds like a nice gift!

  3. This is a great article. It’s about a subject I am very familiar with. I have autoimmune disease and the patch baldness. I have been loosing hair by hand fulls the past couple of days. I need this information so I can make an educated choice on which treatment to start. I have done research on Burdock so I am familiar with it’s properties. I am quite curious about Jojoba Seed Oil and Foraha Oil. I like what you found out in your research and I am considering giving them a try next.
Thank you so much for this information on such a personal topic for me. I’m glad I found a website, yours, where I can get good quality, unbiased, research and opinions on products for hair loss.

  4. wowsers, thank you so much for this great feedback. I’m glad to provide information and hopefully it will steer some of us in the direction of help. Hair loss can be isolating, embarrassing, and tough to deal with, and we are not alone!

  5. Thanks for the info! I always try and look for more natural products, especially compared to all of the toxic shampoos and oils that are available out there for thinning hair. I was actually surprised by the low cost of this guy…and the 20% off is definitely a winner winner chicken dinner in my book! Thanks!:)

  6. you’re super welcome, and I agree – now is the time to cash in on that 20% off coupon before the end of this month. It’s a great deal especially since it’s off the entire purchase. Just Nutritive doesn’t often have sales like this and 20% is huge.

  7. So is this treatment used after or before washing your hair? I am using so many different hair treatments at the moment I’m not sure which one is working for me or if they are all working together. I would like to just find one product for hair loss and stick with that one. My hair isn’t patchy, it’s just receding due to age so would this actually work for me?

  8. You use this on dry hair, at night, before washing your hair in the morning. If you leave it in without washing, some say your hair can look greasy. I only learned about this product recently and am very excited about the sensitive scalp formulation, because that was the issue which was ultimately the dealbreaker for me, for Rogaine.

  9. Penelope,
I like the idea of having mostly natural ingredients in this product, makes the chance of an allergic reaction less likely.
I noticed you use in the evening before going to bed, will this leave any residue on your pillow or do you have to wear a cap while sleeping.
My brother and I both have spot balding in the back, I think I will let him know about the Just Nutritive product as it mostly natural.

  10. Thanks for the great question! It’s probably a good idea to use an older pillowcase or use a cap if you’re worried about possibly staining the sheets. This product has no artificial dyes or anything like that, but it is oil-based, so if you have $500 sheets it’s a good idea to protect them. Let me know how it works out for you and your bro!

  11. Great information!
I had to cut way back on how often I shampoo as I developed an intolerance to some of the ingredients and as a result my hair feels thicker and fuller. However, I do believe that it needs another kind of nourishment now and this product looks ideal. Thank you for your post!

  12. I actually didn’t know too much about alopecia before reading this article, but i definitely feel well informed and i feel that this product will be an amazing help to anyone suffering from hair loss. The ingredients look completely natural which i am sure is essential for helping hair regrowth! great post will definitely be sharing with anyone who i know will benefit!

  13. Yes, all-natural is the way to go. Glad you could learn more about hair loss conditions and that you’ll share the info with anyone who will use it.

  14. Yeah, it does sound like a serum would fit well into your routine. Especially one like this, with all-natural ingredients and no poisons! Thanks for reading and commenting!

  15. Another brilliant review! I am always searching for this because my mister is receding and is slightly bothered and looking to *cough cough desperate to* remedy it if he can. Would you recommend this for a man who is receding or is this strictly for those with alopecia? Thank you Penny!

  16. I would definitely recommend this – most hair loss is, in fact, a form of alopecia rather than something else. Not many people have strictly stress-induced hair loss, or scalp trauma that results in hair loss temporarily, or hair loss due to a medication, or even chemotherapy. Thanks so much for reading – give this one a shot!

  17. I have a friend who has been suffering hair loss do to a medication she is taking for a condition. Do you think this would help any or would she have to stop the medicine first thanks?

  18. Some people (me included) are unable to stop taking a medicine that causes hair loss. However, we can mitigate it with these other treatments, because what those medications do in most cases is just accelerate the normal causes of hair loss, particularly the hormonal DHT causes. I would recommend that she just try adding in this treatment and seeing if she notices a difference. thanks for the great question!

  19. With so many products out there that claims to deliver the promising result, and often results in disappointment. I like the fact this product is all natural and free of harmful chemicals. Thank you for the information and I believe many people will benefit greatly from reading your article.

  20. How do I know if I’m suffering from Alopecia? I guess I’d have to go to a dermatologist. Do you think my dermatologist would recommend this?

  21. If you have alopecia, your dermatologist can tell you, and you can always bring this product in to get her opinion. I do know that it’s well reviewed by all kinds of people suffering from alopecia.

  22. Hi Penelope, I am all in for natural products. My husband has Alopecia universalis. He lost all his hair at the age of 3! I don’t think I will force any products on him, but if our kids ever show any signs of Alopecia I’ll make sure to check your blog for recommended products.

  23. Great product and really well explained review. Usually it looks like that Alopacia treatments are really time consuming and cannot be done during busy life. You always recommend best and easy to use products. Thank you so very much for helping us by sharing such great articles..

  24. I know someone who has alopecia and I never heard about it before him telling me he had it. I like this treatment because it is a simple spray and the cost is really great. I am going to hold on to this page to tell my family member about it. Thanks for another great review.
