How to Take Your “Day 0” Hair Photos

Tracking your progress is one of the best ways to see your results over time. Follow these simple steps to capture clear, consistent photos today — and again in the future.

1. Set Up Your Lighting

  • Take your photos indoors under bright lighting, such as bathroom or vanity lighting.
  • Avoid natural sunlight since it changes daily and will make comparisons harder later.
  • Make sure the light is even and directly above or in front of you (not behind).

2. Prepare Your Hair

  • Make sure your hair is clean and dry.
  • Use a comb or your hands to pull your hair back so that your hairline and scalp are clearly visible.
  • Keep your hairstyle consistent each time you take photos.

3. Take 5 Photos from These Angles

Use your phone’s rear camera (for better quality) and ask someone to help, or use a mirror and timer if needed.

  1. Front On – Hair pulled back from your forehead.
  2. Left Temple – Turn your head slightly right; pull hair back to reveal your right temple.
  3. Right Temple – Turn your head slightly left; pull hair back to reveal your left temple.
  4. Crown (Top of Head) – Lean forward slightly or have someone take the photo from above.
  5. Middle Parting – Part your hair down the middle and photograph directly from above.

4. Keep It Consistent

When you take your follow-up photos (e.g., every 3 months):

  • Use the same location, same lighting, and same angles.
  • Try to take them at the same time of day for the most accurate comparison.

5. Optional Tips

  • Use a tripod or stand to keep camera height and angle consistent.
  • Label your photos (e.g., Day 0 – Front, Month 3 – Crown) for easy tracking.
  • Save all images in a dedicated folder so you can easily compare your progress.
